At its Sept. 23 meeting the Muskegon City Commission approved several consent and contract items in single votes.
- Sale of city‑owned vacant lots at 452 and 460 Adams: Staff reported the buyer, West Michigan Construction Exchange Company LLC (developer Dave Ryscamp/White Birch Homes and Cottages, Inc.), will build duplexes with accessory dwelling units on the two lots. Sam Pulis, code coordinator, said the project will result in about 12 rental units on that block; duplex rents were described near $1,300 and ADU rents near $1,100.
- Henry Corridor signal improvements: The commission authorized execution of a $126,616 contract with Roe Professional Services Company for design and construction engineering for three traffic signal replacements on Henry Street (Sherman, Hackley and Laketon). Dan Vanderheide, director of public works, said construction is anticipated in 2027 and that signals are roughly 20 years old.
- Fire marshal truck purchase: The commission approved purchasing a replacement fire marshal pickup from Gorno Ford for $59,690 after a battalion chief vehicle was struck while parked. Staff noted this will be the city's first hybrid pickup in the fleet and tied the purchase to the climate action plan guidance to evaluate hybrid/electric options when feasible.
All motions were approved by roll call during the meeting.
What’s next: Staff will finalize sale paperwork, issue the design contract and take delivery of the vehicle per standard procurement timelines.
