Gettysburg Area SD introduces new teachers and counseling staff as school year begins

At the start of the meeting, Dr. McFarland and board members invited newly hired teachers and staff to introduce themselves to the board and community.
New staff who spoke included Megan Ashley, a first-grade teacher who said she graduated from York College and was previously a long-term substitute; Holly Mailhorn, who will teach a life-skills class at James Getty; Dave Jerhoski, who will teach eighth-grade math at the middle school (starting around Sept. 27); Sarah Spinski, the new seventh- and eighth-grade science teacher; Connor Tracy, the new seventh- and eighth-grade social-studies, civics and U.S. history teacher and coach; Stephanie Griffith, a third-grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary; Michael Herring, an ES teacher at the high school; and Lakota Bowers, a high-school counselor who invited community members to visit the counseling office.
The presiding officer thanked the new hires on behalf of the board and wished them well during the district's transition. The board described the introductions as "a nice touch" and encouraged the new staff to feel welcome.
