The Laurens City Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution committing the city to provide the required local match in the event the Municipal Association awards the city a "Big Idea" Grant (the Municipal Association renamed its economic development grant program).
Mayor said the commitment is routine and only binding if the grant is awarded; councilors noted there is no fiscal impact unless the award is made. The mayor flagged potential plans for Little River Park playground replacement and said the grant would help support a project consistent with the city's priorities. The motion passed by voice vote with no dissent recorded.
No immediate appropriation was made and council members said they would consider future budget implications only if and when the grant is awarded.
