Parent urges more staffing and supports at Summit Elementary during public comment

During the public-comment portion of the June 5 meeting, Brett Schneider, a parent of two rising third-graders at Summit Elementary, asked the school board to prioritize immediate staffing stability and additional noninstructional supports for Summit.
Schneider said Summit has the highest proportion of low-socioeconomic-status families among elementary schools in the division, the lowest test scores, and the highest staff turnover. "Seven out of 15 classroom teachers have already left the school," he told the board, and he urged the division to ensure every classroom position is filled before school starts.
He also asked for short-term attention to counselors and special-education staff, saying behavioral needs that routinely disrupt classrooms contribute to turnover. Schneider thanked the board for the rezoning work underway but said more short-term resources are needed to stabilize staffing while longer-term boundary changes take effect.
The chair closed the comment period after the three-minute allotment and the board did not take immediate action during public comment; staff noted the board exchanges earlier in the meeting about attendance, promotion and resource allocation as contextual follow-ups.
