Chester County nominates student to Tennessee State Board of Education

The Chester County School Board voted to forward the name of Jace Alexander, a sophomore at Chester County High School, for consideration as the student member of the Tennessee State Board of Education.
Director Kilzer said he received a request from Dr. Sarah Hayburn, executive director of the State Board of Education, asking districts to recommend students for possible appointment by the governor. Kilzer told the board that local high school counselors had identified Alexander as a candidate and introduced him to the board.
"I'd just like to say thank you for the nomination. I'm very grateful," Alexander said after the board introduced the recommendation. He said the nomination came as a surprise but that he would try to meet expectations if selected.
A motion to approve the district's recommendation to forward Alexander's name to the governor's office was made and seconded and approved by voice vote; Kilzer said the governor's office would conduct interviews as part of the selection process.
The nomination is a recommendation to the governor; the state board will forward nominees to the governor for appointment and the transcript records that additional interviews at the governor's office will follow.
