At its June 5 meeting the Charlottesville City School Board recorded a series of routine but consequential actions by voice vote.
Title grants: The board approved separate motions to accept the division's federal grant applications for Title I, Title II, Title III and Title IV as presented. Board discussion noted the need to monitor potential federal funding changes (including McKinney-Vento transportation support for students experiencing homelessness), but each Title application was approved by voice vote.
Policies: The board moved to approve the May 2025 VSBA policy updates but accepted a friendly amendment to remove policy KGRL (facilities use / KG) from the action list for further review; the remaining policies were approved.
Budget amendment: Miss Hoover presented an FY26 budget amendment to incorporate additional state funding passed by the General Assembly; the board approved the amendment by voice vote.
Student representatives: The board voted to appoint the previously introduced student representatives for the 2025–26 year (Ginger Craighead Way and Solly Schwartzman) and alternate Jayla Turner; the appointments were approved by voice vote.
What to watch next: Staff will return with corrected policy language for KGRL, parent-facing materials and fall literacy data, and standard implementation updates related to the approved grants and budget amendment.
