The Cannon County Board of Education voted Aug. 14 to approve the purchase of secure gun lockers for School Resource Officers at every school.
The proposal, presented by board members referencing a Tuesday workshop presentation from Mister West, was moved, seconded and carried by roll call. Trustees said the lockers are intended to ensure secure on-campus storage for officers’ firearms and to strengthen school safety procedures.
There was little recorded opposition during the open meeting and the board approved the purchase by roll call. The district did not provide a purchase price or vendor in the open meeting discussion; trustees instructed staff to proceed with procurement under the previously discussed workshop proposal.
The action follows routine workshop discussion of the item and is part of the district’s broader safety measures; the board did not record any conditions or contingencies tied to the approval in the open record.
