At its meeting the Brookings School District board approved a slate of motions covering routine business and several memoranda of understanding.
Consent agenda and minutes: The board approved minutes from the Aug. 11 regular meeting and the Sept. 2 special meeting and accepted the salary listing as part of the consent agenda.
SDSU welding MOU: The board approved a memorandum of understanding with South Dakota State University to continue AGED 491 (a welding course taught on‑site at Brookings High School by Josh Johnson) covering the 2025–2027 school years.
GAP site agreement revisions: The board approved revisions to the Great After School Place (GAP) site agreement that limit GAP’s kitchen access to the dish room and a three‑compartment sink, with specific usage guidelines and billing. The board and administrators discussed federal procurement rules that govern kitchen equipment purchases and how those rules constrain third‑party food prep in school kitchens; GAP retains refrigerator access but warm meal preparation may be curtailed.
SRO MOU: The board approved a one‑year (2025–2026) memorandum of understanding for school resource officer services.
Oldham‑Ramona‑Rutland reorganization: The board approved the dissolution/reorganization plan and supporting resolution to reassign ORR territory to neighboring districts; superintendent clarified the district must approve the plan before it is forwarded to the state Department of Education for final approval.
Rising Hope Counseling MOU and Title IX appointments: The board renewed its annual MOU with Rising Hope Counseling LLC for on‑site counseling services and appointed Michelle Vanderweerd and Laura Garretts as the district Title IX coordinators.
Scheduling and next steps: The board rescheduled its Oct. 27 meeting to Oct. 20 so members can attend a campus event and to receive a workshop update on the science renovation schematic design from the district architect (CO OP). The meeting recessed into executive session under SDCL 1‑25‑2(3) at the end of the public agenda.
All motions described above were moved, seconded and recorded as passing during the meeting; individual vote tallies were not recorded in the public transcript for most items.
