University mobile exam unit to base in Boyle County for multi‑month population health screenings

Dr. Stephanie Boone briefed the Boyle County Fiscal Court that a university mobile exam unit will be deployed to Boyle (and neighboring Garrard) County for an extended period to conduct population health screenings and recruit volunteers. The unit includes a CT scanner for coronary artery calcium scoring, echocardiography for heart function, spirometry for lung function, blood draws and other noninvasive exams.
"We're gonna be recruiting about 855 people from Boyle and Garrard County," Dr. Boone said, noting that the study is governed by a university institutional review board and that identifying information is removed from the dataset for analysis. She explained participants will receive individualized results and that a red‑flag protocol will trigger quick follow‑up contact and referral to local physicians and health systems.
Dr. Boone invited the public to sign up via the project Linktree and said organizers were coordinating with local providers, including Ephraim McDowell Health, to ensure appropriate clinical follow‑up for abnormalities found during screening.
Court members welcomed the project and asked staff to help publicize sign‑up options and the unit's open house.
