Boyle County issues proclamations for overdose awareness, suicide prevention and National Service Dog Month

At its Aug. 26 meeting the Boyle County Fiscal Court read and adopted three proclamations: International Overdose Awareness Day (Aug. 31, 2025), Suicide Prevention Month (September 2025), and National Service Dog Month (September 2025).
Kathy Miles accepted the overdose proclamation and highlighted local recovery work, upcoming events including an expungement clinic and a remembrance program. "Overdose deaths in Boyle County of Boyle County residents compared to 2023, which was 17," Miles said while outlining recovery and prevention activities and urging community support for EMS and crisis response teams.
Terry (community crisis response team) accepted the suicide prevention proclamation on behalf of the newly funded response team and described their outreach and growing call volume. "Our awareness in the community is spreading and growing," Terry said, thanking the court for its support.
Mark Herrick and Tammy Harrod of Canine Companions and a recipient described the National Service Dog Month proclamation and explained training, wait times and examples of service‑dog tasks; Herrick encouraged residents to apply via the organization’s website. The court approved each proclamation by motion and voice vote.
Court members thanked local volunteers and service organizations and encouraged residents to attend the listed events and support local prevention and recovery services.
