Student council outlines 'Rio Carnival' homecoming week, parade and dance plans

Lexi Buntrock and Landon Hay, student council representatives, presented the high school's homecoming plans and event schedule to the Stewartville Public School District board.

The council said this year’s theme is “Rio Carnival,” inspired by Rio de Janeiro’s culture. Buntrock outlined dress-up days: PJ Day, Tropical Tuesday, Color War (with grade-level colors for seniors through freshmen), USA Day and Tiger Pride to close the week. She named Samantha Jagish as homecoming head and listed homecoming court members and the coronation winners.

The presentation included logistics for several events: a powder-puff football game and middle-school volleyball on Wednesday evening; PepFest and a parade on Friday (parade lineup at 4:30 p.m., parade to begin at 5 p.m., vehicles must vacate the parking lot beforehand); and a Saturday dance from 7–10 p.m. at the Strobel Golf Club (tickets $10 presale, $20 at the door). The student council said the dance will include a DJ (Dan Simmons) and a photo booth and that pizza will be served for students who stay until 9 p.m.

Student council representatives named committee leads for key activities (pep/dance committee co-heads, parade committee co-heads and fun-committee co-heads) and said many activities will be run by students. The council requested that student council members be permitted to staff event tables and distribute snacks at halftime during a home soccer match.

Board members responded positively, praised the student planning, and asked a few logistical questions (timing, planning lead time). The board thanked the students for the update and invited them to attend future meetings to keep the board informed.

The board did not take action on the presentation; it was received for information.
