Bolivar R‑I board certifies election, reorganizes officers and approves multiple routine motions
Summary
At its April reorganization meeting the Bolivar R‑I Board of Education certified election results, swore in two new members, elected officers, approved consent and budget-related items, and took a roll-call vote to rescind a previous censure.
The Bolivar R‑I Board of Education, meeting in April 2025, certified results from the April 8 election, administered oaths to newly elected members and completed routine reorganizational business including officer elections and several administrative approvals.
Sheila Anderson administered the oath of office to Brian Thompson and Lynn Coffey after the board read certified vote totals. The board then elected Ron Owens president, Drew Ligon vice president and Dan Goodman treasurer by voice votes during the reorganizational portion of the meeting. Sheila Anderson was reappointed board secretary and Cheryl Thompson named alternate secretary.
The board approved the consent agenda as presented, accepted multiple administrative reports, and approved motions to seek bids for an expanded restrooms/storage scope at Liberator Park and to adopt work calendars for the 2025–26 school year. Finance staff presented an overview of revenues and expenditures and an estimate for moving employees one step on the salary schedule (presented to the board for later approval).
In formal action later in the meeting the board voted to rescind a resolution of censure issued in March 2024; Mr. Womack addressed the board and disputed the grounds for his earlier censure. The rescission was conducted by roll-call-style voting as recorded on the meeting record.
The board also approved the recommended revision to the KLB AP1 administrative procedure on library reconsideration (see separate article) and discussed a vendor-submitted organ-donation curriculum; administration recommended not adopting that curriculum for classroom use.
The board adjourned after agreeing to shorten its internal agenda-posting process to a 48-hour public posting window moving forward.
