Parents press district on pests, athletics music and gaps in early college program

Multiple parents told the board on Aug. 26 they are worried about facility cleanliness and program quality. Priscilla Noel reported seeing roaches in classrooms at South Main Street School and asked the district to address pest control and cleaning of athletic bleachers.
Noel also asked the board to strengthen the early college program so credits transfer and students complete higher‑level math (for example, precalculus) and rigorous science sequences. "My son had to take an additional general education course despite two years in the early college program," she said, urging the district to collaborate with partners like Atlantic Cape and Stockton to align offerings.
Separately, community volunteer Jonathan Diego asked district leaders to review music played from the press box at football games and called for adult oversight to prevent profanity; he also suggested naming athletic facilities for distinguished local athletes.
Several commenters and the PEA president raised teacher morale and communication problems stemming from late distribution of schedules and the staff handbook; board members and the superintendent said they would provide final staff schedule information and proceed with legal/labor review where appropriate.
