Bastrop ISD board approves application for Optional Flexible School Day Program at Genesis High School

After a required public hearing, Bastrop ISD trustees on June 17 voted to approve submission of an application to the Texas Education Agency for an Optional Flexible School Day Program (OFSDP) to operate at Genesis High School in 2025—26.
Reyna Ellis, the district—s director of college and career readiness, explained the program serves students at risk of dropping out — commonly those with attendance or credit deficiencies — and described the local identification and intake process: counselor and administrator review, written student/parent agreements and an intake appointment at Genesis. Ellis said the program is intended to help students graduate and provided preliminary enrollment and outcome figures for Genesis: an increase of 29 students in total enrollment this year and 24 additional graduates compared with the prior year.
Following trustee questions about intake requirements and parental consent for students under 18, a trustee moved to approve submission of the OFSDP application and the board approved the motion by voice vote.
The district will submit the application to TEA and administer required assessments and reporting if the application is accepted.
