Bastrop ISD renews MOU with county juvenile boot camp to continue education for expelled students

The Bastrop Independent School District board approved a renewal memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Bastrop County Juvenile Boot Camp to continue providing educational services for expelled students.
Dr. Janelle Morse, director of student services, told trustees the partnership (originally established in 1999) provides continued educational opportunities led by a certified teacher and includes trade skills, discipline and reentry support intended to lower recidivism and support postsecondary readiness. Morse said 16 BISD students participated in the program last year and reported a 93 percent successful completion rate for students in the program overall.
Morse also told the board that the advisory board granted Bastrop ISD an additional voting seat based on the district's financial contribution; she said details of the district's financial contribution will be provided by the district CFO on request. After brief questions about program enrollment and advisory-board representation, a trustee moved to approve the MOU, the motion was seconded, and the presiding officer announced the motion carried.
