Board approves tentative March staffing and SBDM allocations; preliminary staffing shows mostly stable staffing

The Bath County Board of Education approved tentative staffing allocations for March 1, 2025 and tentative site-based decision making (SBDM) allocations during the Feb. 17 meeting.
District staff described the allocations as preliminary. They said three of the district’s four schools are projected to keep current staffing levels while one school currently shows a need for an additional teacher; staff use a five-year average to estimate kindergarten enrollment. The SBDM allocations (section 6 money) are calculated from 9/30 average daily attendance (ADA) and reflected modest decreases because attendance dipped slightly.
Staff emphasized the preliminary nature of the figures and said a final allocation will be presented in April with salary schedules. Board members asked clarifying questions about timelines and what would happen if change orders or unforeseen costs affect project budgets and, by extension, future bonding capacity.
Eric moved to approve the tentative staffing allocations (motion by Carla, second by Kim was recorded for staffing item); the board approved both the staffing and SBDM allocations by voice vote.
