Blue Valley board approves multiple vendor contracts including $2.0M Syntegix security upgrade

(prime food supplier), Envision Technology Group (cabling upgrades at Blue Valley West and Blue Valley Middle, funded with bond funds), CNC Produce (produce contract), EduCLIMBER (student-data dashboard via Renaissance Education), FastBridge (dyslexia screening tool), and Xello (individual plan of study tool via Southeast Kansas Education Service Center/Greenbush).
The largest single technology item discussed was a Syntegix contract to upgrade the district’s crisis alert badges to a LoRa-based system. Administration cited a contract total of $2,000,081.02 and said the district will receive a credit of $842,900 that covers the first two years (including installation), with the first required payment deferred until the third year. The Syntegix presenter described the badges as a routine part of the district’s layered safety system and said staff use the alerts regularly: "It's the personalized badges that employees wear ... I could just immediately push that button, and I would have help there immediately," and noted roughly 1,100 staff-alert clicks over two years for incidents ranging from medical to security.
Board members asked clarifying questions about timing and parking impacts for the gym project, data collection for EduCLIMBER and FastBridge, and whether the cabling project would prepare buildings for new paging/intercom systems. Administration said data shared with EduCLIMBER is limited to required reporting to the Kansas Department of Education and that no behavior data is stored in the system.
Each motion included the mover and seconder as recorded in the meeting (for example, the Syntegix contract motion was "Motion by Jody, second by Patrick") and all motions—contracts and procurement items—passed unanimously.
What's next: Projects will proceed as scheduled (gym start adjusted to fall completion in 2026; Syntegix installations timed to district deployments in May–June). Renewals for multi-year services reflect the district’s procurement calendar and, where applicable, use bond funds or state contracts.
