Cosmetology schools, board members decry AB225 proposal to cut training hours to 1,000

Mimi Dolleywall said she saw the “detriment that switching to 1000 hours did there” when she worked in California, and John Grieco said the change would “break down our industry.”
Board staff and leadership reiterated they are not sponsoring the bill; Director Steve McDonald said board staff will compile submitted comments and forward them to the legislator. Several board members — including Warren River Harris, Herbert Douglas, board member Wolds (surname given as 'Wolds') and Board member O’Brien — spoke during the meeting and registered strong opposition. Harris said the bill “threatens the integrity, the safety, and the professionalism” of the industry and urged members to “work with industry professionals to find a balanced solution.”
Speakers urged immediate action: submit written comments to inspection@nvcosmo.com (staff said written comments would be accepted until 5:00 PM the same day) and contact legislators directly. Staff cautioned it did not provide a summary of the bill during the hearing to avoid influencing commenters and encouraged individuals to read the bill text and contact their legislators. The board closed the town hall and moved to other agenda items after collecting oral comments.
