The board approved a $128,332.55 purchase, piggybacking on the University of Tennessee contract, to outfit a cosmetology program at the armory with roughly 15 stations; funding will come from the Innovative Schools Model grant.
The Johnson County School Board approved a $128,332.55 purchase of cosmetology equipment to furnish a cosmetology program housed at the armory. The purchase will be piggybacked from the University of Tennessee contract and funded through the Innovative Schools Model grant.
Presenters said the equipment package includes washers, workstations and other furnishings sufficient for about 15 stations. A district representative said the purchase mirrors equipment used by TCAT so students get a consistent experience as they train and transition to credentialing programs.
Board members asked whether the district would offer barbering in addition to cosmetology. Presenters clarified TCAT does not offer barbering at this time and that barbering would require approximately 300 additional hours beyond the cosmetology training. The approved purchase covers cosmetology only.
A motion to approve the purchase was made, seconded and passed on a roll call with all recorded board members voting yes.
