The Hanover Area School District Board of Education on June 10 approved routine financial recommendations and a slate of personnel appointments, and the superintendent used the meeting to congratulate the district’s Class of 2025 and thank longtime employees who are retiring.
The board voted to approve financial recommendations (items 1–8) on a motion from Mr. Orvick, seconded by Mr. Heider; during the roll call Mr. Holmgren said he would abstain on items 1 and 2 and vote yes on the remaining items. The motion carried.
The superintendent reported that 109 students participated in the Class of 2025 commencement and singled out academic and athletic award winners and students entering military service. “I just wanna congratulate the class of 2025,” the superintendent said, and also recognized retirees Scott Francis, Sharon Parisi and Bernadette Gennari for “decades of service to this school district.”
On personnel actions, the board approved items 1–9 following a motion by Missus Blight (seconded by Mr. Stevens). The board then took separate votes on three hires the superintendent recommended: Riley Giambi was appointed as an English-as-a-Second-Language teacher at step B1 with a salary of $55,743 (effective 2025); Cecilia Baltasavage was appointed as a secondary math teacher at step M1 with a salary of $68,643 (effective Aug. 20, 2025); and John Kershaw was appointed as a hall monitor at a rate of $20 per hour, pending required clearances. Each appointment was moved and seconded and recorded as approved by roll call.
The board opened the meeting by announcing that it had met in executive session before the public meeting to discuss employee relations, labor negotiations and threatened or actual litigation, as permitted under the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act. No members of the public addressed the board on agenda items during the meeting.
The board scheduled a special work session and a June special meeting for Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The meeting adjourned after a motion by Mr. Holmgren and a second from Mr. Stevens.
What’s next: The board will meet in a special work session and hold the June special meeting on June 17, 2025.
