Dr. Jessica Biggum, principal of Mayfield Elementary School, presented a spotlight to the board celebrating the schools instructional and community programs.
"Mayfield exists to prepare, support, celebrate, and inspire students in a warm nurturing environment," Biggum said, describing a dual focus on academic press and pastoral care. She outlined PBIS and the schools NEST house system, weekly competitions and large quarterly celebrations that reward positive behavior.
Biggum highlighted a second-grade project-based learning partnership in which students worked with Mayfield Dairy to develop new ice-cream flavors, toured the facility and created persuasive videos for management. She recognized Miss Erin Cole as Mayfields teacher of the year and introduced a student video in which Arleth said Mayfields diversity and traditions make her proud and help students feel they belong.
Biggum closed by thanking the board for its support and saying the schools programs aim to prepare students academically while building character and community.
