Sparks approves two MOUs clarifying retiree health insurance language for police unions

Sparks City Council on Sept. 8 approved two memorandum of understanding (MOU) amendments clarifying language about group health insurance reenrollment eligibility upon retirement for the Sparks Police Protective Association and the Sparks Police Supervisory Protective Association (sergeants).
Human Resources Director Shauna Halterman told the council the revisions correct contradictory language in the collective bargaining agreements and align application of the group health plan at retirement. Halterman said there is no financial impact from the revisions.
Council voted separately to approve AC‑6149 (SPPA) and AC‑6150 (sergeants). No public comment was offered on the items during the hearings.
