Keene council nominates two candidates to Johnson County Appraisal District board

The Keene City Council on Sept. 18 approved a resolution nominating two local candidates to the Johnson County Appraisal District (JCAD) board for the 2026–2029 term. Council considered the request from JCAD and nominated Peter Svensson and Jason Marbutt; the motion to forward those names passed unanimously.
Staff explained the timeline: nominations must be submitted to JCAD by Oct. 15 and JCAD will provide a ballot by Oct. 30. Keene has 16 votes to cast for one or more candidates; the council will allocate those votes by resolution on or before Dec. 15, after receiving the full list of nominees from JCAD.
Peter Svensson spoke briefly about stewardship activities at the appraisal district, ongoing chief appraiser interviews and an internal audit; he asked the council to consider his re-nomination. Council members indicated the nominations would be forwarded as recommended and that the final vote on allocating Keene’s 16 votes will return to the council later this year.
