Los Alamitos council certifies election results, swears in members and elects Shelley Hasselbrink mayor

The Los Alamitos City Council on Dec. 16 adopted a resolution certifying the Nov. 5 municipal election, administered oaths to newly elected council members and reorganized its leadership for 2025, electing Shelley Hasselbrink as mayor and Tanya Dobie as mayor pro tem.
City Clerk staff reported that the Orange County Registrar of Voters certified the election results on Dec. 3. The certification announced the election of Tanya Dobie (District 1), Gary Lowe (District 2) and Jordan Nafolda (District 3), and the passage of Measure X, a charter reform measure. The council moved to adopt Resolution 2024‑48 to formally certify the results and approved it by roll call.
Newly elected council members took the oath of office together, reciting allegiance to the U.S. and California constitutions. After the oath, each briefly thanked voters and staff; Mayor Jordan Nafolda said, "It's an honor to represent my constituents and all citizens of Los Alamitos."
Council then proceeded with its annual reorganization. A councilmember nominated Shelley Hasselbrink for mayor; the council voted by roll call with all members present voting "Aye" and Hasselbrink was declared mayor. The council later nominated and unanimously voted for Tanya Dobie to serve as mayor pro tem.
The council also reviewed and confirmed appointments to outside agencies and standing committees — including delegates to the Association of California Cities, the League of California Cities and representation on the Orange County Fire Authority and Orange County Library Advisory Board — and carried the list by motion.
