Durant approves economic development agreement with Albertsons LLC

The Durant City Council voted unanimously to approve an economic development agreement between the city and Albertsons LLC, a measure city staff described as a milestone that lays groundwork for a new grocery investment in town.
City staff member Kathy told the council a signed contract from Albertsons was before the council and that the only substantive change from executive session concerned permitting fees: "anything over $25,000, Albertsons would pay up $25,000 and then the city of Durant would assume those costs above that." The administration said Albertsons still must clear a few remaining steps before a start date is set and that the city and company will coordinate a formal public announcement when timing is appropriate.
David Harden, identified as Albertsons’ senior real estate manager, and Jeff Sabin, Durant’s economic-development attorney with the Center of Economic Development Law, were present for the discussion. Councilors asked routine procurement and scheduling questions; staff confirmed construction work will go to competitive bid once engineering is complete. After a motion and second, the clerk called roll and the council approved the agreement (Council members Miller, Shear, Vice Mayor Similescu and Mayor Tucker voting yes).
