Cheshire County approves two employee leave extensions

Cheshire County Commissioners on March 12 voted to grant two leave extensions for county employees.
Kim, a county staff member who introduced the requests, asked the board to approve a final extension for a Maplewood nursing employee who returned with work restrictions and has a follow‑up appointment on May 1; the commission was told that if the employee cannot return to full duty then the county would have to sever employment. Kim also requested up to eight additional weeks of leave for a sheriff’s department dispatcher who has reached the end of her FMLA leave and is seeking further treatment related to childbirth complications.
A motion to extend each leave was made and seconded. Commissioners Clark, Stewart and DeBernardo voted yes on both measures and the motions passed unanimously.
The board’s action is administrative: the Maplewood extension is a final county accommodation tied to a May 1 return‑to‑work assessment, and the dispatcher’s leave was approved so she can complete further treatment before resuming duty.
