County recognizes youth baseball world champions and awards Brunswick County IT for hurricane response

During the Sept. 15 meeting, county officials read and adopted a proclamation recognizing the South Brunswick/Southport/Oak Island All Stars (Dixie Youth Baseball Division 2 world series champions). Parents and team members were invited to the front for photos after a motion to approve the proclamation passed by voice vote.
Separately, Cindy Hewitt, the county’s IT director, introduced Hardik Patel and Helen Nelson from the North Carolina Local Government Information Systems Association. Patel and Nelson praised Brunswick County IT for its response to Hurricane Helene—deploying staff to assist the NCEM Western branch and sending personnel to Yancey County—and presented a "nickel Giza above and beyond award" to the team for its emergency support.
The county acknowledged both community recognition items and encouraged parents and IT staff to accept appreciation on behalf of their teams.
