Bartlesville students recognized as All-State musicians

Teachers and students representing Bartlesville’s choir and band presented and were recognized at the Feb. 1 board meeting for selection to Oklahoma All-State ensembles.
Choir and music staff (S4 and S5) listed junior-high and high-school vocalists named to All-State and described the multi-stage audition process that includes district rounds and state-level selection where the field narrows to 25 or fewer per voice part. Band director Chris Kane (S3) named band students (including Logan Young, Addison Duhan, Emily Dickey, Kira Bentenson, Ryan Waddell, David Cooper, Noah Frey and Eisley Sewell), explained district and OKMEA audition rounds and highlighted that Eisley Sewell earned first-chair honors on both piccolo and flute at the state level.
Kane credited district supports—instrument purchases funded by the district, applied-music scheduling and outside professional coaching during the four-week period between audition rounds—for enabling students to compete successfully. Board members and the room offered rounds of applause for the students. No board action was required for the recognition.
