Parent urges BVSD to reject proposed Gunbarrel student reassignments
Summary
A long-term Crestview and Centennial parent asked the board to reject a plan to move Gunbarrel-area students to Heatherwood and Platt, saying the change would harm students’ sense of community and fail to address root causes of declining local enrollment.

During public participation, Amy Franke introduced herself as a parent of students who attended Crestview and Centennial and urged the board to reject a proposal that would reassign elementary and middle school students in the Gunbarrel area from Crestview and Centennial to Heatherwood and Platt. Franke said shifting students would not solve the district’s enrollment challenges and would uproot children from the communities and friendships they have known for years.
"The proposal...simply puts a band aid on BVSD's major issue, which is keeping families within their school district and at their local schools," Franke said. She suggested the district investigate why families are not attending nearby Heatherwood or Platt schools and recommended strategies to attract and retain families rather than repeatedly moving students.
The board took the comment for the record; no action was taken at the meeting.
