The Beauregard Parish School Board approved using $750,000 of remaining 2023 bond funds to continue parishwide air-conditioning upgrades.
District staff said the money would fund a second phase of work—targeting rooftop units, classroom bard units and additional mini-splits—and include clearer bid specifications to avoid past procurement problems. Staff estimated that, excluding any major chiller replacements, the $750,000 would cover roughly 40% of the remaining list of projects and would bring the district to about 75% of needs for that phase. If chillers (major equipment) are included, the presenter said the funds would cover about 35%.
Board members confirmed the benefits for classrooms and voted to approve the expenditure by voice vote. Staff noted that larger chiller work (for example at Ritter High School and South Boulevard High School) has required insurance or separate capital treatment in past years and could exceed available bond funds.
