Board tables Chartwells food-service amendment, awards Title I Chromebook bid to govConnection (Acer)

The board on April 17 delayed final approval of an amendment to the five-year Chartwells food-service contract after a board member identified an enrollment figure used in the vendor’s guarantee that may be incorrect. Staff flagged a student-enrollment threshold (2,190) in the guaranteed-return calculation that appeared inconsistent with current counts; board members voted to table the item so staff and Chartwells can recalculate and return with corrected figures.

Separately the technology department recommended awarding a Title I Chromebook bid to govConnection for Acer Chromebooks at $200,962.75, funded by leftover state Title I allocations the district must spend or lose. IT staff explained the chosen devices met minimum specifications, were intended to be robust for multi-year classroom use, and carry at least a one-year warranty with mail-in support and parts replacement options. An IT representative said, “Our minimum was a 1 year, warranty with mail in support,” noting the district plans to handle many repairs in-house and replace devices when repair costs approach replacement value. The board voted to accept the Chromebook bid.

Staff noted the Chromebook purchase uses a time-limited state allocation; the Chartwells amendment was tabled pending an update to the enrollment-based guarantee so the district can verify projected reimbursements and the guaranteed minimum return the vendor offered.
