Bay County resident asks commissioners for $15,000 to add entertainment lighting at Civic Arena

A Bay County resident addressed the Board of Commissioners during public comment on Aug. 15 to request $15,000 from the county to purchase and install six professional-grade rotating LED entertainment lights for the pro rink at the Bay County Civic Arena.
The speaker said the arena recently received upgraded speakers and chillers and that the proposed lighting would add a new level of excitement for hockey games and other events. She described the system as "high-end professional grade" with a service life of more than 20 years, and said the lights could be used by multiple groups, including the Tri Valley Thunder, Blizzard hockey, figure-skating programs and tournament teams.
"I'm asking you for the money for this edition because I believe it will create new excitement for ice skating and hopefully increase participation in the sport," the speaker said. She added the county needs to act soon to order and install the lights before the Michigan High School Athletic Association season starts in November.
The board did not take action during public comment; the chair closed citizen input and proceeded to the next agenda items.
