The Blount County School Board voted to hold a September retreat to revise its strategic plan, with the goal of narrowing the district’s priorities to three clear, repeatable goals that staff can operationalize. The chair asked the board to present goals to Director Ridge and the administrative team for incorporation into evaluations and daily practice.
Board member John Lowe presented a proposed student-board-member policy (policy 1.1021) to formalize the district’s past practice. Lowe said the policy would set the student’s term from September through May and make the high-school principal responsible for selecting the student. The board moved to accept the policy and to waive a second reading; members voiced assent by voice vote.
Members discussed that the evaluation process is tied to strategic goals and that a retreat should address both goal-setting and changes to evaluation language. The board approved the retreat and the student-board policy and asked administration to prepare materials to guide the September session.
