At its regular session the Athens Area SD board took several formal actions: it denied a support-staff grievance, approved multiple contracts and agreements, and rejected a weather-service contract that had been pulled for separate consideration.
Following a brief executive session on a personnel grievance brought by support staff, board member Speaker 2 moved to deny the grievance (SEG 470) and Speaker 3 seconded; a roll-call recorded unanimous 'Yes' votes from board members Missus Smart, Mister Cherusnowski, Missus Cooper, Mister Frisbie, Mister Johnson, Mister Jones, Missus Minnick and Mister Rood, and the motion carried (SEG 474–489). The solicitor had advised personnel details should be handled in private (SEG 455–463).
Under contracts and agreements the board voted to bring multiple items to the table: a BLAST/IU IDEA pass-through funds agreement, a three-year energy cap subscription agreement, an RFP for a temporary occupational service position, and an RFP for an athletic supervisor contract. The Wiles Valley weather-service proposal (item 10C) was discussed at length because it included three pricing/package options; the board pulled 10C for a separate vote and approved items 10A, 10B, 10D and 10E (SEG 637–748). On the separate roll-call vote for 10C, the motion failed (Yes: Mr. Johnson, Mr. Frisbie; No: Mr. Jones, Mrs. Minnick, Mr. Rood, Mrs. Smart, Mr. Cherusnowski, Mrs. Cooper), so the district did not purchase the weather service (SEG 767–786).
The board also approved routine financial items (general fund checks, cafeteria bills, earned-income tax reports, activity reports) and approved curriculum and transportation items including a bus upgrade and additional driver memos (SEG 508–548; SEG 1124–1151). The board voted on curriculum items (including the history-club trip proposal) by roll call and approved those items (SEG 1099–1119).
No final action was taken on the appraisal for the Lowe’s assessment appeal described by the solicitor; he reported an appraiser had been secured and county and township cooperation was likely should litigation proceed (SEG 492–497).
