The Athens Area School District board approved two solicitor items at a special meeting: an assessment agreement to share appraisal costs among three taxing entities and a recommended settlement of $88,750 to resolve a federal wage-claim complaint.
Speaker 1 explained the assessment agreement, saying the three taxing entities would hire an appraiser if needed and that the school district would pay 50% of the cost while the county and Athens Township would each pay 25%, allocated roughly by tax revenues. On the litigation item, Speaker 1 told the board the district—s insurance defense counsel recommended settlement and said, "The settlement amount that was negotiated is $88,750. And I am recommending that we approve that." (SEG 055—66)
The chair called for a roll-call vote on the solicitor items. Christine and the named board members individually responded during the roll call; each named board member on the roll call responded "Yes," and the chair moved on after the responses. The solicitor items were approved as presented.
The agenda note and discussion indicate the settlement resolves a federal complaint alleging unpaid wages, personal days, sick leave and insurance benefits; the transcript does not provide additional settlement terms or a payment schedule.
The board moved on to personnel business after the vote. No public comments on these solicitor items were recorded during the meeting.
