Aberdeen SD reports net loss of 18 students; approves 97% of 250 transfer requests

On open enrollment, Guffin said 17 students who live outside the Aberdeen School District enrolled in district schools while 35 students left for schools outside the district, for a net loss of 18 students. Guffin described the loss as smaller than in prior years but still a decline.
On intra-district movement, Guffin said the district received 250 transfer requests from families seeking to move from one school in the district to another and approved 97% of those requests, noting many requests arrived late as school started. He said last year’s approval rate was 100%.
Board members asked clarifying questions (one query noted a family that moved from Gettysburg). There was no formal board vote related to enrollment or transfers during the meeting; these were informational reports.
Following the reports the board moved toward adjournment; a motion to adjourn was called by a speaker identified as Irfan and the meeting closed.
