The Aberdeen School Board approved the district—s 2025—26 goals at its November meeting, Superintendent Dr. Goffin said. The board voted by voice to adopt goals that emphasize literacy expansion, work on math standards, staff wellness programming and enhanced safety preparation.
Dr. Goffin told the board the goals grow from an administrative retreat held two weeks earlier and from work already underway. He said the district will expand the science-of-reading literacy work into grades 6—12 and continue the K—5 instructional work begun last year. "That work will continue again this year," Dr. Goffin said.
The goals document also highlights a reading intervention called SOAR, planned math reviews tied to the state's revision of content standards, a staff wellness calendar, and continuing community and internship partnerships at ATEC. Dr. Goffin noted the district conducted a comprehensive emergency preparedness tabletop exercise on July 29 with local public safety partners, and that the district has updated ALICE training and is continuing mental health first-aid onboarding for new staff.
A motion to approve the goals was made from the floor and seconded; the board approved the motion by voice vote. The superintendent said administrators will share the goals with staff and seek regular progress updates through the school year. No formal vote tally was recorded in the transcript.
The board's adoption sets priorities that district staff said will guide professional development, safety planning and monthly communications with families in the coming year.
