The Arlington County Board on Sept. 16 took three recorded administrative actions: it adopted an initiating resolution to study potential zoning-ordinance amendments, authorized a settlement for emergency repairs to Wilson Boulevard and approved the county’s participation in the proposed Purdue Pharma bankruptcy settlement involving the Sackler family.
Staff explained the initiating resolution responds to an identified inconsistency in how some zoning-district regulations grant board discretion when reviewing special-exception site plans following a late-2024 circuit-court ruling. The board approved the resolution and staff expects to deliver final recommendations to the Planning Commission and the Board by January 2026.
The board also authorized the county attorney to enter into a settlement covering emergency repairs made to Wilson Boulevard in June 2024. The chair moved and the board unanimously approved the authorization to finalize settlement documents.
Finally, the board accepted the Purdue Pharma bankruptcy plan and approved the county’s participation in the proposed settlement of opioid-related claims against the Sackler family, directing the county attorney and outside counsel to execute necessary documents and releases. The motion passed 5-0.
Each item was approved by voice vote or roll call without recorded dissents. Staff will return with executed settlement papers and with the zoning-study recommendations according to the timeline provided.
