Arlington board approves policy second reading, personnel actions and confirms facilities director

At a regular meeting, the Arlington Central School District Board approved a second reading of district policy and a string of routine personnel and administrative items, including an extension of a probationary period, certified tenure recommendations, and creation of a civil service position.

Superintendent Smith drew the board’s attention to a consent-agenda item recommending Joe Cotter as the district’s next director of facilities to succeed the retiring John Wilson. Smith said Cotter had been learning alongside Wilson for several years and “cares deeply about Arlington and the people who comprise the department.” The board moved to confirm the appointment by voice vote, and the motion passed.

Other approved items included a motion to extend a probationary period, and certified teacher tenure recommendations; the board approved each motion with aye votes and no discussion recorded. The board also approved a civil-service position creation and a consent agenda comprising multiple previously distributed documents.

Board members asked that administration provide clarity on future reporting needs and suggested scheduling time to review any areas where the board seeks additional data. No policy numbers or ordinance citations were presented in the meeting record.
