The Acadia Parish School Board voted to adopt the district's 2025'''6 pupil progression plan after staff outlined changes driven by the Louisiana Department of Education and local drafting. The board recorded that most revisions reflect LDOE reorganization and added guidance including a new emphasis on civics at the high school level.
A principal local change discussed at length requires that first graders be "considered for promotion" only if they successfully complete both English (ELA) and math. District staff and board members emphasized that the School Building Level Committee (SBLC) still has the authority to review the whole record and make ultimate promotion or retention decisions.
"The wording for what is going to be considered successfully considered for promotion in first grade is that they must pass English and math," a district presenter said during the meeting. Board members asked how much weight individual teachers carry during SBLC deliberations, and staff reiterated that the SBLC's recommendation is reviewed by supervisors before a final decision.
The motion to adopt the pupil progression plan was made and seconded and carried by voice vote.
