DOT to revisit 2019 turning‑lane plan as district seeks traffic fixes for new middle school

Mr. Ross briefed the board that a 2019 study by a consultant group included turning‑lane recommendations both into the new middle school and at the intersection of Highway 74 and Anson High Road. A later 2024 DOT analysis recommending staggered school start times had effectively superseded aspects of the 2019 plan, but Ross said DOT has agreed to revisit the 2019 recommendations to see whether turning lanes or other changes would better address traffic flow.
Ross cautioned that funding, timing and jurisdictional responsibilities remain unsettled: some elements relate to state‑maintained roads while others concern an access road tied to a grant discussed separately. He said the district expects additional meetings in the coming weeks to identify next steps and funding options as the middle school opening approaches.
The board asked staff to keep the superintendent informed and to direct parents with concerns to district staff for follow‑up.
