Community partner Lee Ainsworth presented a concept and estimate for roadway improvements intended to improve traffic flow and safety near Anson High School Road and Anson Middle School.
Ainsworth said the plan would widen the school-side roadway and add a roughly 250-foot right-turn storage lane and a roughly 250-foot left-turn storage lane, extend the sidewalk to the new driveway and provide a dedicated right-turn lane into Anson Mills Drive. He said the improvements would allow buses to use a right-turn lane and reduce left-turn movements onto Highway 74.
Ainsworth told the board the design has state-level approval and is awaiting final approval from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and that the board’s right-of-way approval will be needed before work proceeds.
Board members and Ainsworth discussed a possible roundabout near the armory to improve bus circulation and noted the project team is coordinating with the state and federal agencies for the remaining approvals.
No formal board vote on the roadway project was recorded at this meeting; the board later approved a consent item that included granting a right-of-way to DOT (listed on the consent agenda).
