Annandale board weighs operating and capital levies as ATSIS grant is provisionally approved

At the Annandale Public School District board meeting, presiding board member Speaker 1 said trustees are examining "all funding options for our district," including a possible operating levy and a capital project levy that could pay for technology staffing and free general fund dollars.
Board members said the finance committee has been meeting with Ehlers to model tax impacts for different levy dollar amounts, including illustrative examples for a $300,000 house, to inform whether to put a measure before voters. "They're working on those for us now," Speaker 3 said of the Ehlers charts.
Speaker 2 described the capital project levy as one way to sustain 1-to-1 device initiatives after ESSER/COVID funding expires and noted that technology staffing is among the limited categories allowed to be charged to that levy. Speaker 4 said the board will hold several listening sessions at different times and locations "to hear directly from the community" before making a decision.
Separately, Speaker 2 announced that the ATSIS grant the district pursued has been provisionally approved, saying the approval is "a very, very, very good sign" and that the application will be tweaked and resubmitted with staff coordinating the final paperwork. The board praised staff members John, Charlie and Joy and finance lead Rick for their work on the application.
No formal levy was proposed or voted on at the meeting; board members described next steps as additional small-group meetings to refine dollar amounts, community listening sessions, and another discussion at the next board meeting. Speaker 1 confirmed the district's next monthly meeting is scheduled for the following Monday at 07:00 at the Media Center.
