Annandale reviews special-education child count: 282 K-12 students receiving services

Lindsay presented three charts compiled from December 1 child-count reports and told the board the numbers come from MDE funding reports. She said the chart of seven member districts showed special-education resident percentages ranging from about 16% to 23.5%, with Annandale shown at 18.1% on that chart.
Lindsay then reviewed the students the district physically serves. "As of December 1, our enrollment was 1,955," she said, and the district had 282 K-12 students receiving special education services, which she said represented 14.4% of the district's enrollment and matched the prior year's percentage.
Lindsay also walked through early-childhood trends: birth-to-3 counts had declined from 18 last year to 10 this year while ECSE (3-to-5) programming increased from 48 to 59 students. She said the district's two ECSE teachers carried roughly 18 to 19 students each now but projected starting next year nearer to 13 each, acknowledging evaluations and midyear eligibilities can change caseloads.
Board members asked about timelines and staffing; Lindsay confirmed the person hired in January 2018 handles reevaluations and has helped stabilize caseload figures since then. The board had no additional questions and thanked Lindsay for the update.
What happens next: staff will continue monthly enrollment monitoring and return with updated child-count and caseload projections as changes occur.
