Board approves participation in Main Street program to inventory historic village buildings

The Amelia County Board of Supervisors voted May 20 to participate in a Main Street program supported by the Commonwealth Regional Commission (CRC) and the Economic Development Authority. Staff said the program would bring grant‑funded outside assistance to identify a potential historic district in an older village area, compile a building inventory, and create an online portal for tracking properties. The EDA has approved funding for the county’s match portion of the grant; going forward the county’s ongoing cost would be an estimated $375 annual portal membership to maintain the inventory.
Board members asked whether the new Community Development Director, Austin Mitchell, would administratively manage the project; staff confirmed management would sit with the planning/economic development office. The board approved the resolution to enter the Main Street program relationship by voice/hand vote.
