Alvin ISD board approves election schedule, construction contracts, benefits platform and personnel actions

The Alvin Independent School District board on Tuesday approved a slate of administrative, procurement and personnel items, voting unanimously on most motions and recording one abstention on an administrative appointment.
The board voted 7-0 to approve the consent agenda (items A-E) and to call the May 3, 2025 general trustee election for positions 4 and 5 (incumbents Regan Peterson and David Celski were named as the current holders). Trustees also approved a joint election contract with Brazoria County for that date.
Facilities and procurement actions approved by unanimous vote included a proposed contract award for Phase 1A security vestibule upgrades to a contractor listed in the packet as "econtractors" for a not-to-exceed amount of $1,733,287.50; and a Phase 1B award to Tucan LLC (transcript lists the contractor doing business as variations "Unbehavin"/"Unbehagen") for a not-to-exceed sum of $1,129,000. The board also approved using the Construction Manager at Risk procurement method for expansion and renovation projects at Alvin High School and Manville High School.
On benefits administration, the board approved continuing with the Benefitfocus insurance and benefit enrollment platform under RFP 2502INBEP. Staff cited an estimated annual cost of $207,859.20 based on $4.33 per employee and an enrollment base of 4,000.
Personnel actions were approved as presented. The board approved an administrative appointment for Danica Garza as assistant principal at Stevenson Elementary; the motion passed with six votes in favor and one abstention.
Motions and vote outcomes were recorded in public session; where movers and seconders were announced on the record, the meeting minutes reflected those at the time of each motion.
The board then recessed into a closed executive session under the Texas Government Code for further matters.
