At its meeting, the Alvin ISD board canvassed and certified the May 3 trustee election results, approved designated nonbusiness days under House Bill 3033, and voted to authorize several cooperative purchases and service contracts.
The board certified results for trustee Position 4 (Brian Roberson, 58.08%) and Position 5 (Cheryl Harris, 53%); staff noted five provisional ballots of which two were counted and presented the results for board approval. The motion to canvass and certify the results was moved, seconded and carried.
On statutory matters, staff presented the calendar of nonbusiness days authorized under HB 3033 (which excludes up to 10 designated days from the public information request response period). Trustees approved the designated nonbusiness days as presented.
On facilities, the board authorized the superintendent to negotiate an agreement with Bennion Sports Surfaces for an estimated $577,000 to repair the track at Shadow Creek High School under cooperative purchasing rules; the vendor indicated purchase‑order processing and mobilization timing of roughly 2–3 weeks and staff discussed weather and hurricane season as potential schedule risks. Trustees then approved an estimated $677,490 expenditure for a FieldTurf USA cooperative contract (Board cooperative contract 737-24) to replace the synthetic turf at Alvin High School’s Memorial Stadium; staff described a 28‑day manufacturing lead time and roughly 21 days for installation with a target completion date of Aug. 1.
The board also approved a contract renewal with Methodist Hospital to provide districtwide athletic trainers. All procurement and contract motions were moved and seconded; the record shows the motions carried. Trustees asked several timing and product questions during the turf and track discussions — including whether old turf could be repurposed — and staff said they would attempt to reuse materials where feasible.
No legal challenges, appeals or formal budget reallocations were made at the meeting; staff will return with procurement documents and final contract terms for superintendent review and signature where required.
