Alvin ISD Education Foundation gives $529,599.52 to district, honored for tornado relief work

The Alvin ISD Education Foundation presented a check for $529,599.52 to the Alvin Independent School District and reviewed a year of fundraising gains, grants awarded and expanded community outreach.
Brandy Growth, the foundation’s executive director, told the board the organization raised more than ever at its gala and increased inclusion by relocating its ‘turtle race’ fundraiser, drawing more than 800 participants, a jump of about 150 from the previous year. “Every sponsor, every donor, every business, every individual…you've helped us make a true impact,” Growth said as she introduced the donation total.
Trustees publicly thanked the foundation and acknowledged its role in coordinating relief after the tornado that damaged Walt Disney Elementary. A trustee said the foundation’s quick organization allowed donated funds to be funneled through the foundation and distributed to staff and families during a holiday break, when direct district processing would have been difficult.
The foundation also reported a string of grant awards and emphasized volunteer board leadership; trustees posed for photos with honored students and volunteers before the board moved to its next agenda item.
The board accepted the foundation’s presentation; no formal vote was required. The board will continue to receive annual cost-benefit evaluations from the foundation under its memorandum of understanding with the district.
