Alvin ISD gives timeline and cost update on Bond 2024 projects, security upgrades and campus replacements

Deputy Superintendent/Construction Services staff provided trustees a detailed update on Bond 2024 and capital projects, describing completed summer work, projects under way and tentative schedules for larger campus replacements. "Just over 2.2 million dollars worth of work done this summer that was completed," the presenter said, and he said about another $2.2 million remained in progress to be finished during the fall semester.
Completed work highlighted in the presentation included field-leveling and resurfacing of tennis courts, HVAC and chiller maintenance (the district estimated each chiller replacement at roughly $500,000 and a 20-year life), and a $105,000 replacement of a band tower. Construction services showed images and descriptions of security-vestibule upgrades—what staff called a 'generation 2' vestibule with ballistic-rated teller glass and a buzzer-in system—installed or reoriented at several campuses this summer (examples given: RISE campus, Alvin Junior High, Merrick, Jeter, Hoodcase and Passmore). The presenter said the firm J&B2 was the vendor for generation-2 vestibules and that additional phases were in design for future summers.
On larger projects, staff reported demolition and slab completion at the former Disney site where a replacement campus is planned and said Arcadis would present design options later in the fall. The board heard tentative phasing timelines for full high-school replacements and junior-high and elementary projects stretching into the late 2020s and early 2030s, with an example timeline noting a replacement-campus move-in target of August 2028 for one phase and additional phases through 2031 depending on project complexity.
Trustees asked about specific costs and design choices; the presenter provided a band-tower cost example ($105,000) and described warranty/installation corrections on one item that the vendor reworked at no charge. The board discussed naming conventions for replacement campuses and staff said a community naming survey and a naming committee would be used for community input.
No votes were required for the update; staff said the items in the presentation are part of active project management and would return to the board for bidding and contract approvals as required on future agendas.
