Alma School District board approves salary schedules, hires staff and upholds expulsion

After convening and handling recognitions, the Alma School District board conducted several formal actions: approval of prior minutes, adoption of salary schedules following executive-session deliberations, approval of personnel hires and acceptance of an expulsion recommendation.

Early in the meeting the board approved the March meeting minutes on a motion by Speaker 2 with a second; the motion carried on a voice vote. Later, the consent agenda and financial report were approved without items pulled.

On new business the board discussed proposed certified salary schedule changes that increase stipends for years of experience and add stepped increases and degree-lane adjustments. Speaker 3 moved to approve the base salary schedule but not the stipends; Speaker 2 seconded the motion, and the board approved the base schedule on a voice vote. The board then moved and seconded approval of the index schedule, which also carried on a voice vote. The transcript records voice votes only; no roll-call tallies were provided.

The board approved recommendations for employment presented by administration: hiring Kelsey Stone as an eighth-grade teacher and volleyball coach at Alma Middle School and hiring Ashton Ogilvy as a teacher at Alma Primary School. Administration brought forward an expulsion recommendation. The board entered executive session to deliberate, then returned and voted to accept the administration's recommendation for expulsion on a voice vote.
